What We Do
CoMag: Council of Muslims on Aging Gracefully, is a seniors’ advocacy initiative established in 2017 with a vision to promote enhanced quality of life for Muslim Seniors of Edmonton through education, research, and collective action
Advocacy & Outreach: we do this through
- Networking & collaborating with organizations, stakeholders, officials, & community
- Partnering with mosques
- Recruiting community volunteers
- Advocating for Muslims Seniors’ unique needs
We are promoting healthy aging through
- Lunch & Learn; Senior’s Fair etc
- Intergenerational Activities: Paint Night, Grand-Parents Pen Pal Project
- Workshops: Grief Recovery, Health Literacy, Legal & Financial-Literacy & Housing, etc
- Social events (Eid & New year’s celebration), Calendar, Website development & maintenance
- Applying for grants (awarded NHSP Federal Grant: 2022/2023, and 2024/2025)
- Reaching out to members through social media, WhatsApp, and other means
- Increasing CoMag membership through different avenues of communication

- Organizing Social Events for seniors who are living in the community
- Supporting seniors’ living in care facilities through visiting them, providing halal food/snacks, & celebrating special occasions e.g. birthdays, Mother’s Day, & Eid etc
- Advocating for appropriate services for Muslim seniors living in care facilities & home care.
- Actively seeking solutions to seniors' housing issues
- Advocating for better options for aging in place
- On-going collaboration with researchers
- Holding membership to MSRC- Muslim Seniors Research Advisory Committee (U of A)
- Participating in pre-publication research/study on Muslim seniors
- Facilitating Community consultations
